I think of my totems and wall art as invitations to a seductive place of beauty and pleasure. They are all uniquely improvisational, growing organically within the confines of the hardwood frame. The repetitive nature of this work allows for happy accidents and surprise. It fills me with a sense of accomplishment and has proven to be a genuinely appropriate vehicle for translating inner vision to outer reality. I believe art should provide the viewer with a break from the routine everyday experience. I hope my totems do that.

The functional pieces are an outgrowth of my inability to discard even the smallest scrap of wood my work generates. Each unique remnant has its own character and beauty that invites me to fashion art from it. So my boxes and cutting boards are born.
